Green Park Station

Green Park Station MapMap & Description

Green Park Station is a beautiful restored Victorian railway station, which now houses market stalls, charity offices, parking spaces and a farmers market every saturday, as well as being adjacent to a Sainsbury's supermarket. It is surrounded by 2-4 story buildings, comprising a mix of Georgian, Victorian, and Modern architecture.

This location is one of three sites identified in the Spatial Framework as cornerstones of the "Heart of Bath", while in an overall area that is identified as ripe for retail-oriented riverside redevelopment opportunities.

From the Spatial Strategy: "Green Park Station provides a fabulous opportunity for a new kind of retail experience, focused around organic, local produce and health and well-being. This will complement the retail offers at Milsom Street and Southgate."

The north side of the Green Park site provides a natural area for an ULTra station location, due to it's easy connection to the adjacent street (James Street West) and its potential for general redevelopment. Thus there is a great deal of scope for potential station design - one could look to integrate it into the existing structures, create a standalone open-air design, or consider incorporating it into a new multi-purpose building, for example.

The guideway would most likely be elevated alongside James Street, at the full 5.6m-clear height. However, other guideway configurations can be proposed as an element of your design.
