Pulteney Bridge

Pulteney Bridge MapMap & Description

The riverside is a natural corridor for ULTra to get close to the heart of Bath city centre, whilst simultaneously providing a connecting route between the north and the south. This area poses many interesting design challenges both in terms of integrating the guideway into the current riverside scene and in creating a station whose architecture complements the surroundings.

This site is one of the most appealing viewsheds in the city of Bath, and hence is one of the most challenging locations to design for. The best location for a station is near Pulteney Bridge, where there is an underpass beneath the bridge road, providing a link onto Grove Street. This underpass constrains the height of the guideway to be less than 2.5m; a ground-level guideway might be appropriate, but would create severance issues between the riverfront and the businesses to the east.

Due to the challenging and complex nature of this site, ATS is considering developing a base model in Sketchup to help out-of-town designers understand the environs. If you are interested in this, please register for the competition and identify your interest in the site.
