St. James's Rampire

St. James's Rampire MapMap & Description

St. James's Rampire is envisioned as a key location for arrivals and departures in the future plans for movement around Bath. It offers convenient access both to the city centre and to routes out towards the suburbs, and is currently an under-utilised space with much scope for redevelopment.

This potential is already being investigated, and the Public Realm & Movement Strategy discusses "...the creation of a new public space at St James's Rampire, providing an arrival and welcoming point for those travelling on the new Bath Rapid Transit, as well as incorporating wayfinding information and cycle hire."

This presents St James's Rampire as an ideal site at which to explore different ways the ULTra PRT system can interact with other modes of transport. The challenge is to design an ULTra station that integrates fully into an open-air public environment oriented towards inter-modal travel, to ensure the whole passenger journey experience is as pleasant and simple as possible.

The ULTra guideway running through the site would presumably be elevated, at the standard 5.6m-clear height. However other guideway configurations are possible, if the designer can make a persuasive case for them.
