This raw footage shows the view out the front of an ULTra vehicle as it makes the journey between Terminal 5 and PRT Station 'A' in the T5 Business Car Park. It was filmed by the BBC in November 2009, as part of their footage for a feature on "Inside Out". The 2km (1.3 mile) journey takes approximately 4.5 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 40 kpm (25 mph). At the time that this was filmed, no other vehicles were operating on the system, however multi-vehicle testing is now well under way. Passenger trials are slated to begin in early 2010, with the system due to open to the public in the first half of the year.
When open, ULTra at Heathrow will provide on-demand transport, offering fast, non-stop, pollution-free travel at the push of a button. This pioneering system is the first of its kind, anywhere in the world, and will usher in a new era of efficiency and convenience at Heathrow.
